Circling Rivers is undergoing a big change! As of August 1, we will be focused on publishing works by and about Walt Whitman. It’s not easy to give up publishing new collections, but personally and business-wise, it’s time to shift our endeavors. (CR’s fiction imprint gertrude m books will continue as is.) Keep an eye out for new Whitman projects this fall!
Our author-signed books will be on sale from now until August 1 at 25% off with free shipping. Inventory is limited and time is of the essence — so please don’t delay buying these. You can also buy all our books online or order them at a bookstore until August 1. (After that, it’s a question of when the retailers’ inventory is depleted.) What has been most fulfilling about publishing new collections is helping poets shape their hard-wrought works into a collection: a book. Best of all, hearing from them with comments like, “I am proud of the work we did together — of the work that you encouraged and coached me to do. I am a better poet because of it.” That, I will certainly miss.
Some of our authors may find another publisher or they may indie-publish their collections. We’ll let you know if that happens, and we’ll continue sharing news of their readings and events as they share with us.
Speaking of…
The Drahomán Prize, which recognizes translators of books from Ukrainian into other languages, has named Nina Murray as its 2025 winner. The award ceremony was held at the Book Arsenal, in Kyiv, where a Chytomo correspondent was present.
And from Bryan R. Monte: “I’ll be reading at The Writer’s Center in Bethesda, MD, with poet Claudia Gary and fiction writer Bari Lynn Hein on Thursday, 24 September from 7 to 8.30 p.m. I’ll be reading a new memoir and poetry.”
